Please Don't let me be Misunderstood

“I’m just a soul whose intentions are good,

Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood.”

Do you ever feel like sometimes even though people are listening to you, but you aren’t being heard⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This has been a reoccurring theme in my life. Not really by any extreme but it’s mostly just my personality that wishes to be heard...like REALLY heard.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve been listening to Brene Brown’s Braving the Wilderness on Audible and she talks a lot about understanding everyone on a human level. And how it is impossible to hate if you move in closer.

Cue to me watching the Bachelor and getting so mad at the girls who spread false and hateful gossip because they think they are doing they “right thing” when they never even took the time to get to know that woman they are attacking.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

And the worst part? Those women honestly think that they are justified in doing so.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Art is my way to speak, and for someone to hear me exactly how I want to be heard. And even then, I have received criticism or not been taken seriously in my efforts. And I have felt the same way about a certain piece of art, but when I took the time to move in closer and try to hear what the artist was saying, I finally heard. I now love so many works of art way more than before.

It doesn’t mean we have to like everything or everyone. And it doesn’t mean that no one is wrong or right. But maybe if we moved in a little closer to each other and to things we don’t understand we can all be heard just a little better.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Here’s a great Animals lyric that has always spoken to me.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“I’m just a soul who’s intentions are good, Oh Lord please don’t let me be misunderstood”
